PFL makes elbow strikes legal in all fights

The PFL has officially legalised elbow strikes in its fights – having previously banned the technique.

The MMA promotion runs a league system in the US and Europe which means its best fighters can compete up to four times a year.

With elbows increasing the chance of a cut to a fighter, the technique was banned.

But after permitting elbows in the 2024 PFL finals last November, chairman Donn Davis announced the strike was now a permanent fixture of the PFL.

“New year, new adjustments,” Davis said on X.

“You asked for elbows, [PFL] is giving you elbows. All elbows. All fights. All the time.”

The PFL is yet to announce any dates for the start of the 2025 season, but does have a Bellator event scheduled for 25 January in Dubai.

Irishman Paul Hughes faces Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov.

Unbeaten Manchester fighter Dakota Ditcheva claimed the PFL flyweight world title in 2024 and is hopeful she can bring a major event to her hometown in 2025.
